two sisters exploring a bigger backyard

Nicole

I love travelling, eating and capturing those moments along the way. I started SECOND SMITH as my photography haven and it has become even more special now that I get to share it with my sister! I’m 25, but I don’t feel like it. I’m probably going to act like I’m 18 for the rest of my life. Fortunately I have a husband who is on board with that plan! I am also fortunate to live in the UK right now. So I get to travel ALOT! This has been a dream of mine since I don’t even know when. I learned to love cameras from an early age and have been playing with them ever since. I don’t take photography or travel all that seriously. It should be fun and the greatest part is that it can be fun for everyone! It’s the best way that I have found to express myself and show someone my perspective. Now I get to do two of my favorite things together, travel and photography, well three if you count eating. The best part of travel is the unexpected. There’s no staging, it’s all real so you photograph as you stumble upon it. I shoot with whatever I have in my hands whether it’s my Canon, a GoPro or just my iPhone. The best camera is the one you have with you and the best souvenirs are the memories. I am just preparing for the days where I will need a little reminding of those memories! Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for more of our adventures! Cheers.

Jes

I am the older sister, but not old! I am lucky enough to have such an amazing sister to embark on adventures with including this cyber memory board we share with you. In my 28 years of life I have been given opportunity to experience many life defining moments and I have decided not to allow those things to become my identity. Its very common to become known by your profession as in “I’m Jes the Emergency Medicine PA”, or even by events such as “Jes, the cancer survivor”. Me, I would rather be known as Just Jes; a name given to me by my parents, but defined by all the adventures and experiences within my life, not just one moment or one part of my life. All of them add up to one amazing adventure and who I am! I am not a photographer in any way, but I love to try to take pictures to share with others of the things I find along the way that remind me how beautiful and striking the ordinary things can be.

Time

There’s never enough of it, so make the most of it whether that’s enjoying you own backyard or someone else’s! (just don’t hop the fence)

Go Somewhere

It doesn’t have to be far, but you should go. Travel is about discovering places old and new!

Stay Connected

Our family is scattered across the world but we try to stay connected, it’s a good thing we like to travel! Thanks bros for giving us vacation destinations!

Capture It

This is Nicole’s favorite! A nice photo is always the best souvenir! Don’t get too absorbed behind the lens though and forget to experience the moment!

the most important trip you'll ever take – coming home

Why coming home will always be the most important journey you take:  It will make you wonder why you ever left and remind you exactly why you did. Something I’ve learned from uprooting my life every few years is that home is not a place. It’s an idea. It’s a feeling....

JUST fly – almost misadventures on the blue ridge parkway

No matter where we go or what the plan is trips with my sister are always an adventure. We did a road trip from Washington to Crater Lake in Oregon a few years ago. We made a pit stop in the land of the Goonies along the way and it was awesome! So when the opportunity...
